Sesame Potato Toast

Sesame potato toast is an easy breakfast toast recipe. This sesame toast is a great recipe to make for breakfast or for snack time. The toast is made up of any type of bread, mashed potatoes and a generous amount of sesame seeds. The mashed potatoes are then applied to the bread and is topped with sesame seeds. This is then shallow fried in oil. It can even be toasted in toaster or in a grill or in a panini press.

Making the same oats and cornflakes for breakfast is at times boring and we need some new breakfast ideas. You can try cabbage dal paratha, broccoli aloo lifafa paratha, green moong and vegetable idli, egg dosa, tortilla pizza, upma or banana sheera for breakfast.

If you use a non-stick pan, you can make this toast using very little oil thus making it healthier. As it contains sesame seeds it is loaded with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium, magnesium, fibre, protein, etc.

Ingredients needed to make potato sesame toast recipe:

  • Sesame seeds: Sesame seeds is the star ingredient and must be used generously in making this bread toast with sesame and potato.
  • Potatoes: Peeled, boiled and mashed potatoes are used in this breakfast recipe.
  • Green chillies: Green chillies are added to make the toast slightly spicy. This is an optional ingredient.
  • Bread: Whole wheat bread is used in this recipe. You can use white bread or multi grain bread too.
  • Masala: Chat masala is used in this bread snacks recipe. If you donโ€™t like chat masala you may not add it.
  • Coriander leaves: Few chopped coriander leaves are also to make the sesame toast.

How to make sesame toast with potato?

  • First wash the potatoes and boil/steam them. Peel and mash the boiled potatoes.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the mashed potatoes, chopped coriander leaves, chopped green chilies, chat masala and salt to taste.
  • Take a bread slice and apply 2 tablespoons of the mashed potato mixture on it.
  • Pour the sesame seeds on a plate.
  • Reverse the bread on which the mashed potato mixture has been applied on the plate with sesame seeds. Lightly press the bread on the sesame seeds.
  • Heat a tava/frying pan, spread 1 tablespoon oil.
  • Now shallow fry the bread upside down with the sesame potato mixture facing downwards in the pan. Fry till the sesame seeds turn slightly brownish. This should take around 10 minutes
  • Flip the bread to the other side and fry for 5 minutes.

Potato sesame toast

The toast can be prepared within very less time. So, when you are pressed for time, you can simply boil or steam the potatoes at night, mash them and keep in the fridge. Next day in the morning, you can prepare the toast and thus save time during the morning rush hours.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 medium sized potatoes
  • 1 small bunch fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 4 whole wheat bread slices
  • 2 teaspoon chat masala
  • To taste salt
  • 2 tablespoon oil for frying the toast

  • Mix salt to taste.
  • Take a bread slice and apply 2 tablespoons of the mashed potato mixture on it.

Notes

Serve it hot with some tomato ketchup with a cup of tea or coffee.
