Today’s recipe is a sweet dish known as Goan Banana Yellape. This is also known as appe or paniyaram in South India. These Yellapes are made with mashed banana and rava or semolina. This is another specialty from Goa. I learnt this dish from my mother in law who is currently in Bangalore to stay with us for few days. Oh, yes! I am learning lots of new dishes from her these days.

Few days back I received a Tupperware Speedy Chef for review. The product is red and white in colour and works without electricity. Imagine when there is no electricity and you need to whip something urgent and quick. That is the right time when this product comes into a good use. This product is light in weight as compared to electric beaters and can be carried anywhere. New mothers can carry this beater along with them in hand baggage and make quick milkshakes and purees whenever needed. During summers, you can use this product to make quick lassis. So even if there is a power shutdown, this Tupperware Speedy Chef makes delicious dishes for you.
The Tupperware Speedy Chef comes with the following components:
- Large ergonomic handle with an integrated funnel.
- Cover with an integrated gear system.
- Whisks
- 1.3 L bowl with an anti-skid ring on the base
- Liquid tight storage seal
All the parts are easy to assemble and easy to clean too. This product is not suitable for thick batters or dough. It cannot be used to make dough for chapattis or rotis. I had little problem while making the batter using this product. But then I applied little more pressure and it worked like magic. Since it has anti-skid ring on the base, it stood firmly on my kitchen top.
You can use this product to whip egg whites, cream, pancakes, mayonnaise, etc. You can also use it to:
- Prepare whipped cream for decorating cakes and desserts. Add flavoring such as vanilla essence through the funnel.
- Prepare light pancake batters, omelettes, mousses and other whisked desserts.
- Prepare light mayonnaise or dips. Remove the cover and whisk in your favourite freshly chopped herbs and flavoring.
- Prepare wonderfully light sponge cakes, pavlovas and meringues by beating up egg whites in the Speedy Chef.
Now let us head on to today’s recipe which is Goan Appe or Yellape.
