Ganesh Chaturthi festival is approaching. All over Goa we can see different places with beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha in Ganapati chitra shala (a place where they make the idols, paint and sell).  Ganesh Chaturthi 2021 in Goa might not be celebrated like the pre-COVID era. However, now all are eager to welcome Lord Ganesha at home and celebrate in their own way. Here is a list of different Goan vegetarian recipes for Ganesh Chaturthi.

I have compiled a Ganesh Chaturthi menu with different dishes for Ganesh Chaturthi. If you find any recipe with onion, you can skip the step of adding onion and continue with the rest of the recipe. So let us see some Goan vegetarian recipes and desserts to cook for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Modak: Lord Ganeshaโ€™s favorite food and is a must make Ganesh Chaturthi recipe.

Deep Fried Modak (Indian Dumplings With Grated Coconut And Jaggery)
Modak is an Indian dumpling which can either be deep fried or steamed. Todayโ€™s recipe is deep fried modak which has freshly grated coconut, jaggery, sesame seeds, cashewnuts, cardamom powder and little ghee or clarified butter as filling.

Varan Bhaat
Varan Bhaat is a delicious preparation in which curry made with toor dal and coconut is served with steamed rice. This is a pure veg, no onion no garlic preparation, normally made for festive days.

Khatkhate: A delicious no onion no garlic mixed vegetable stew.

Khatkhate (Goan Mixed Vegetable Stew)
Khatkhate is a mixed vegetable stew made in Goa. It is also pronounced as Khatkhatem and is a popular dish in Goa. It is made during all festivals and religious occasions. A festival or an occasion would be incomplete without khatkhatem. This stew is very nutritious as it is made with different vegetables. The mixed vegetable stew known as Goan khatkhate recipe is made without oil. Yes! It is a zero oil recipe and does not contain onion and garlic. It is vegan too.

Moong Gathi or Mooga Gathi or Muga Gathi is a traditional Goan dish usually served in temples. This dish is made using sprouts of green gram in a delicious coconut gravy which is tempered with mustard leaves and curry leaves. This is a pure veg, no onion and no garlic curry.

Ambadyachi Uddamethi / Goan Hog Plum Curry
Hog plums are known as ambade in Goa. This ambadyachi uddamethi is a vegan curry and tastes mildly sweet and sour.

Sangacho ross: Do not add onion while pressure cooking.

Goan Drumstick Curry | Sangacho Ross
Goan drumstick curry or sangacho ross is a Goan vegetarian curry made with drumsticks, toor dal (split pigeon peas) in a mildly spiced coconut-based gravy. This is a traditional Goan vegetarian curry and is served with rice. Best part is that the Goan curry gets ready under 20 minutes.

Kantola Fry With Rava | Spiny Gourd Fry | Phagla Phodi
Rava fried teasel gourd or phagla phodi is a delicious side dish belonging to the Konkani cuisine. To make pan fried kantola, we slice teasel gourd, marinate it with spices, coat in spiced semolina(rava) and shallow frying less oil. Kakrol fry is a must try monsoon recipe. In monsoon, several seasonal vegetables are available, and you should always eat the vegetables available in that particular season. One such vegetable is teasel gourd or spiny gourd or forest bitter gourd. It is known as fagla, phagla, phagila,kantola or kakrol in local Indian languages.

Futi kadi:

Goan Kokum Kadi Without Coconut Milk | Futi Kadi
Futi kadi is Goan drink made with kokum petals and water. This drink is also known as kokum kadi without coconut milk. Some people also call it phuti kadi or khuti kadi. Kokum is known as โ€œsolaโ€ in Konkani and this drink can be called as sol kadi without coconut milk. This kokum kadi is very good for digestion and is usually had at the end of a meal.

Rice kheer or Goan rice payas is a traditional Indian pudding recipe made with rice, milk, sugar, dry fruits and flavoured with green cardamom powder. Chana dal kapa or burfi are made using chana dal/gram dal, sugar and grated coconut. Cardamom powder is added for flavor and to make it fragrant. Little ghee is added for slight glare.
