Mushroom Chili

Mushroom chili is a delicious restaurant style Indo – Chinese recipe. This chilli mushroom gravy recipe is spicy and tastes delicious with Chinese noodles. It can also be served as a side with fried rice. This is a vegan mushroom recipe.

Mushroom chilli

The vegetarian mushroom chilli recipe can be cooked in two ways – Chilli mushroom gravy as mentioned in the recipe below and chilli mushroom dry. To make mushroom chilli dry, do not add water to make gravy. Rest of the steps remain the same.

Ingredients needed to make mushroom chili:

  • Mushroom: Use 1 packet (200 gm) of button mushroom to make this mushroom chilli pepper. You can also cook this recipe with oyster mushroom or portabella mushroom.
  • Vegetables: Vegetables like capsicum, red onion and green onion are used to make this delicious mushroom recipe.
  • Ginger: Minced ginger or ginger paste is used in this recipe.
  • Garlic: Minced garlic or garlic paste is also used in this Indian Chinese recipe for taste and flavour.
  • Sauce: Soy sauce and green chili sauce are the sauces used in this delicious Chinese gravy.
  • Spice powder: Black pepper powder is the spice powder used in this recipe.
  • Stock cube: I have used 1 stock cube in this recipe.
  • Flour: A little bit of corn flour is added in the recipe to make the mushroom gravy thick.

How to cook mushroom chilli?

  • In a wok or pan, heat oil and fry the onions.
  • Once they are bit pinkish add ginger-garlic paste and mix.
  • Now add the capsicum and fry for few minutes.
  • Then add the stock cube, pepper powder, soy and chilli sauce and mix properly.

  • Add chopped mushrooms and mix well.
  • After some time, mushroom will release water. Let it get cooked nicely. Add 3/4th cup water and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add corn flour and mix. Cook for 2 minutes or till the gravy thicken a bit.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onion greens.

Mushrooms have lots of health benefits. They are full of proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Mushrooms helps to reduce the cholesterol levels and are beneficial in preventing cancer of prostrate and breast. They also help reduce diabetes as they contain natural insulin. They also boost the immunity and aids weight loss. Mushroom is the only vegetable to contain vitamin D in edible form. They are rich in calcium, iron, potassium, copper and selenium.

But there is a word of caution. Only a few types of mushrooms are edible. Mushrooms can kill too as most of them are poisonous. Always buy packaged mushrooms and never ever try to pick mushrooms from woods.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet button mushrooms quartered
  • 1 medium sized onion julienned
  • 1 cup spring onion green chopped
  • 1 medium sized capsicum chopped
  • ยฝ tablespoon ginger minced
  • ยฝ tablespoon garlic minced
  • 2 green chillies slit and seeds removed
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 Maggi cube
  • 1 teaspoon corn flour
  • To taste salt

Instructions

  • In a wok or pan, heat oil and fry the onions.
  • Once they are bit pinkish add ginger-garlic paste and mix.
  • Now add the slit green chillies and capsicum and fry for few minutes.
  • Then add the stock cube, pepper powder, soy and chilli sauce and mix properly.
  • Add chopped mushrooms and mix well.
  • After some time, mushroom will release water. Let it get cooked nicely. Add 3/4th cup water and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add corn flour and mix. Cook for 2 minutes or till the gravy thicken a bit.
  • Add salt to taste.
    Garnish with chopped spring onion greens.

Notes

If you want to make chili mushroom dry, then do not add water.
