Wheat bhakri is a sweet flatbread or  pancake made with whole wheat flour. This flatbread for breakfast is a healthy and easy under 20 minutes recipe. In Goa, we make different types of bhakris or pancakes for breakfast. Wheat bhakri or wheat flour pancakes makes an easy and healthy breakfast. I first had this at my momโ€™s place. I really loved this bhakri that mom made. I thought that this recipe is very difficult to prepare, but it was damn easy and is an under 20-minute recipe. Some people also call it wheat cheela or atta cheela.

Sometimes kids get bored to eat the same dish for breakfast. Breads are also not always healthy. Try this wheat bhakri or onion bhakri for breakfast. I am sure you and your family will have a great time. My hubby and my little one loved this bhakri and it has also joined the weekly breakfast menu. Sometimes we make it for dinner too, specially when I am pressed for time due to office calls.

The taste of grated coconut and jaggery makes this bhakri a delicious one. If you donโ€™t like the sweet taste than you can add one or two green chilies to the batter and make a savoury pancake for breakfast.

Ingredients to make wheat bhakri recipe:

  1. Wheat flour: Use whole wheat flour to make these breakfast pancakes.
  2. Coconut: We need some grated coconut to be added in this recipe. If you have freshly grated coconut then use it, else even pieces of dry coconut can be added.
  3. Jaggery: Jaggery is added for sweetness. Sugar can also be used if jaggery (molasses) is not available.
  4. Chili: A green chili can be added optionally.
  5. Oil: Oil or ghee (clarified butter) can be added for frying the whole wheat flatbread.
  6. Water: Boiled and cooled water or cool RO water should be used to make batter for making this pancake with wheat flour.
