  • Spice powders: Spice powders used in this
  • Flour: I have used all purpose flour and rice flour to make deep fried shrimp batter. Rice flour is used to make the coating crispy.

How to cook golden fried prawns?

  • First step to make any recipe with prawns is to wash, de-shell, devein and marinate them. You can check this video to know how to de-shell and devein prawns.
  • I have marinated prawns for 10 minutes, you can do it even for 30 minutes. For marination, I have applied red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt. You may marinate them with black pepper powder and salt if red chili powder and turmeric powder is not available.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the two flours โ€“ rice flour and all-purpose flours and then add the spice powders and make a thick batter. Ensure that there are no lumps in the batter.
  • Heat oil in a pan, test if oil is ready for deep frying, by dropping little batter in the oil. If oil is ready the batter will rise and quickly get fried. Else it will shrink to the bottom. This explains how to deep fry shrimps with flour.
  • Coat the marinated shrimps in batter and deep fry for 3 to 4 minutes them in batches of 4 or 5 prawns depending on the size of the pan. This explains how to deep fry shrimps with flour and how long should you deep fry shrimps.
  • Drain on a kitchen paper.

  • 10 tablespoon water

For marination:

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Wash the prawns. De-shell and devein them. Marinate the prawns and keep aside for 10 minutes.

  • Coat the marinated prawns with the batter and gently drop them into the heated oil in batches of 4 to 5 prawns depending on the size of the pan.
  • Gently turn the prawns to the other side when they turn golden and let them get cooked.
  • Deep fry them for 3 to 4 minutes till they turn brownish.
  • Take them out of the kadai/pan and drain them on a tissue paper.

Notes

  • Heat oil in a pan, test if oil is ready for deep frying, by dropping little batter in the oil. If oil is ready the batter will rise and quickly get fried. Else it will shrink to the bottom. This explains how to deep fry shrimps with flour.
  • Serve them as starters or as an accompaniment with food.
  • Tastes the best when served hot.
  • Serve with green chutney or tomato sauce. I love to eat them just as they are.
