Black Beans Curry

After a long time I am writing this post. I used to always get fascinated whenever I used to see Black Beans post on the Internet. I used to think that they are like our regular Kidney Beans (Rajma). Last week I visited California. My hubby was there on a business visit and he thought that I should join him. So I went there all on my own. I kinda loved it there. But I was missing cooking.
One day I found Black Beans in the pantry. Quickly I checked in the fridge for basic veges like onion and tomato. I thought I should cook Black Beans and see how the taste is and how it turns out. My hubby used to simply boil and eat them as they are healthy. But I prepared something and it turned out delicious. Just a simple recipe with black beans and the outcome was awesome.

Ingredients:
1 cup black beans
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 big tomato
1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili power

Procedure:
Soak the black beans overnight. Pressure cook them for 3-4 whistles by adding 2 cups water. Add a pinch of salt to this.
Retain the water.

In a wok/frying pan add 3 tablespoon oil. Then fry the onions till pinkish.
Then add the garlic paste and saute for 1 min preferably by closing the frying pan.
Then add the chopped tomatoes and fry till tomatoes turn mushy.
Now add the turmeric and chilly powders and stir nicely.
Add the cooked black beans along with the water from the pressure cooker.
Adjust the salt according to your taste.
Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.
Server hot with bread or tortilla.
