Egg Lo Mein

Take out style under 20 minutes, easy Egg Lo Mein recipe. This is the best Chinese noodle recipe which you will ever need to satisfy your Chinese take-out cravings where the entire family eats together. Every time we visit a Chinese restaurant, we always order noodles like chow mein or Egg Lo Mein and Chinese fried rice. Lo Mein is a Chinese noodles recipe which I have been cooking since ages. This homemade lo mein egg noodles recipe can be made under 20 minutes.

Easy Egg Lo Mein

What is the difference between chow Mein and lo Mein, chow Mein vs lo mein?

Both chow mein and lo mein noodles are made from wheat flour and eggs but the way they are cooked differs. Chow mein means fried noodles and lo mein means stirred or tossed noodles.

In chow mein, we first boil noodles and then fry them before adding vegetables and sauces whereas in lo mein noodles are not fried, it is boiled and then tossed in stir fried vegetables and sauce.

Lo mein sauce recipe:

Lo mein sauce is made of different sauces like light and day soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha sauce for heat, sugar for sweetness and ginger and garlic for authentic taste.

  • Sriracha sauce
  • Dark soy sauce
  • Light soy sauce
  • Ginger, ground into paste
  • Sugar
  • Sesame oil
  • Garlic paste

Mix all the ingredients mentioned above and make delicious sauce for tossing lo mein noodles.

Lo Mein

How to cook lo mein noodles?

  • Take a small bowl and add all the ingredients mentioned for sauce namely sriracha sauce, soy sauce, ginger paste, garlic paste, sesame oil and sugar. Keep it aside.
  • Take a large deep bottomed pan add water and boil. Add noodles and cook as per the instructions on the packet or al dente.
  • After noodles are cooked, drain the water and spread them on a colander. Pass running cold drinking water through the noodles so that the cooking process stops and so that noodles donโ€™t stick to each other.

Steps to make Egg noodles

  • Heat a skillet or wok and add oil. After oil gets heated, add garlic. After raw smell of garlic goes away, add onion, bell pepper, French beans, some spring onion greens, mushrooms and carrot and cook till the vegetables get slightly cooked, for about 8-10 minutes by stirring frequently.
  • Add prepared sauce and mix well.
  • Add the cooked noodles and toss.
  • Garnish with spring onion greens.

What to serve with lo mein noodles?

Serve honey chili potatoes or stir-fried green beans as a side dish to go with lo mein.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet egg lo mein noodle
  • 1 bell pepper julienned
  • 1 onion julienned
  • 1 carrot julienned
  • 5 mushrooms sliced
  • 5 French beans cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 th cup spring onion greens chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • To taste salt
  • 2 tablespoon oil

For sauce:

  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce
  • 2 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • ยฝ teaspoon ginger ground into paste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste

Instructions
