Tofu Fried Rice

Tofu Fried Rice is a delicious Indian Chinese vegan preparation of rice with vegetables and lean protein that is tofu. This one pot meal is easy to make and turns delicious. In just 30 minutes you can make this delicious tofu stir fry rice at home.

Tofu Fried Rice

Tofu looks like cottage cheese(paneer), but it is made from soya bean curd and is healthier than paneer. It is gluten free and low in calories too. It is added to most of the Indo Chinese dishes.

Tofu is a good source of proteins and amino acids. It is rich in iron, calcium and vitamins. Add tofu to your diet to have healthy food.

Fried rice as you know is boiled rice which is stir fried and mixed with vegetables and sauces. You can even add shrimps, eggs and mushroom to this tofu and rice recipe and make it yummy.

Other types of rice recipes:

  • Broccoli bell pepper fried rice
  • Sweet coconut rice
  • 15 minute cauliflower fried rice
  • Egg fried rice

Ingredients to make easy tofu fried rice:

  • Rice: I have used Basmati rice to make this delicious stir fry rice with tofu. The aroma of Basmati rice makes this rice delicious.
  • Tofu: Use extra firm tofu to make this delicious tofu rice recipe.
  • Spices: Bay leaf and cinnamon powder are the two spices used in tis recipe. This makes the rice fragrant and flavourful.
  • Vegetables: Red onion, spring onion, carrot and capsicum is added to this fried rice with tofu recipe.
  • Sauces: Different sauces like soy sauce and green chili sauce are added to this vegetable and tofu rice recipe.
  • Ginger and garlic: I have added paste made of ginger and garlic to this recipe. You can add minced ginger and garlic too.
  • Oil: Any type of cooking oil like canola oil, olive oil or vegetable oil an be used to make tis delicious fried rice with vegetable and tofu.

How to cook tofu fried rice?

  • Wash the rice and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Par boil rice by adding the bay leaf and ยผ teaspoon salt to it. Drain and spread it on a colander. Sprinkle cinnamon powder on it.
  • In a kadai or wok, add 3 tablespoon oil and shallow fry the tofu cubes till they turn brownish on both sides. Remove and keep it aside.
  • In the same kadai, add oil. When oil gets heated add chopped garlic and fry till aromatic. Then add chopped spring onion and red onion and fry till onion turns pinkish. Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  • Add capsicum, carrot and mushroom. Fry till the vegetables and mushroom get cooked.
  • Now add the sauces and mix well.
  • Add salt to taste, also remember that salt had already been added to rice too while cooking.
  • Add the fried tofu cubes and gently mix everything well.
  • Finally add the rice and toss.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onion greens.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati rice
  • 200 Grams Tofu cubed
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 2 medium sized onions finely chopped
  • 4 spring onions finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoon spring onion greens finely chopped
  • ยฝ capsicum julienned
  • 1 small carrot peeled and julienned
  • 8 mushrooms chopped
  • 5 garlic pods finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon soya sauce
  • 1 tablespoon green chili sauce
  • 6 tablespoon oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Wash rice and keep aside for 15 minutes.

  • Add capsicum, carrot and mushroom. Fry till the vegetables and mushroom get cooked.
  • Now add the sauces and mix well.
  • Add salt to taste, also remember that salt had already been added to rice while cooking.
  • Add the fried tofu cubes and mix everything well.
  • Finally add rice and toss.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onion greens.

    looks nice will try for sure..but i have 2 doubts/queries..as per my experience when we fry paneer it becomes hard if we will not keep it immidietly in hot salted water. and tofu is also same…so should we need to put tofu also in hot salted water to keep it soft?
    One more thing, like paneer we just bring the packet from market, open the packet and use it directly but for tofu I have heard that we need to squeeze out water before we cook. could you please elaborate how to use tofu for cooking?

    Hi Richa, I bought a packet of tofu and followed the instructions on its pack.
    So if you buy tofu, please follow the instructions on the packet before using it.
    I am not aware about the salt water thing.
