Chocolate Rava Modak – Festive Sweet for Kids & Adults

Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without modaks! While the traditional Deep Fried Modak and Ukadiche Modak are festive favourites, this modern Chocolate Rava Modak is a quick and unique twist.

Chocolate Rava Modaks served on a festive plate as prasad for Ganesh Chaturthi.

These instant modaks combine the goodness of roasted rava (sooji/semolina), milk, sugar, and rich dark chocolate. Soft, melt-in-the-mouth, and full of flavour, they make the perfect prasad for Lord Ganesha and are loved by both kids and adults.

It is perfect as a prasad for Lord Ganesha, just like other festive sweets such as Ladoo, Sabudana Kheer, and Rice Kheer

This Chocolate Rava Modak recipe is a perfect balance of tradition and modern flavors. With just rava, milk, sugar, and chocolate, you can prepare these instant modaks in minutes. Make this Ganesh Chaturthi extra special by offering these delightful sweets to Ganpati Bappa and sharing them with family and friends.

Whether you are a beginner or a busy home cook, this recipe is quick, simple, and requires only a handful of ingredients. Let us get started!

Simple Ingredients to Make Chocolate Modak at Home

  • Roasted rava (sooji / semolina): The main base that gives Chocolate Rava Modak its soft texture and traditional taste.
  • Ghee: Adds festive richness, aroma, and smoothness to the modak mixture.
  • Milk: Cooks the rava perfectly while making the modak creamy and flavourful.
  • Powdered sugar: Naturally sweetens the Chocolate Modak for Ganesh Chaturthi.
  • Dark chocolate (or chocolate chips): Infuses the modak with a rich chocolate flavour loved by kids and adults.
  • Extra ghee (for greasing moulds): Ensures smooth, perfectly shaped modaks without sticking.

How to Make Chocolate Rava Modak

Step 1: Roast the Rava

If your rava (sooji/semolina) is not pre-roasted, dry roast it in a pan on low flame until it turns slightly aromatic. This enhances the flavour and prevents a raw taste. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Mixture

Heat ghee in a pan, add the roasted rava, and sauté for a minute. Slowly pour in milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens and the rava absorbs the milk.

Step 3: Sweeten & Add Chocolate

Add powdered sugar and mix well. Then add chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate melts completely and blends into the rava mixture, giving it a rich, chocolaty aroma.

Step 4: Shape into Modaks

Grease your modak moulds with ghee. While the mixture is still warm, take small portions and press into the mould. Gently unmould to reveal beautifully shaped Chocolate Rava Modaks, perfect for offering to Lord Ganesha.

Once shaped, these modaks are ready to be offered to Ganpati Bappa. For more festive ideas, check out my full collection of Ganesha Recipes Roundup.
