The Perfect Crunch: Air Fryer Potato Slices Recipe

Why Choose Air Frying?

Experience a guilt-free snack without sacrificing the crispy texture you love. Air frying offers a healthier alternative to traditional frying, reducing oil usage while delivering the perfect crunch.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Gather your ingredients for this simple yet delicious air fryer potato slices recipe. With pantry staples and a dash of creativity, you’ll have a wholesome snack in no time.

List of Ingredients:

  • Potatoes: Any type of potatoes can be used to make this crispy potato slices recipe. However, I recommend using Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes as they are high in starch content, mealy, have white flesh and great for air frying.
  •  Spice powders: Spice powders like garlic powder, paprika, red chili flakes and black pepper powder are used in coating the potatoes. These enhance the taste and flavor. Quantity of spice powders can be slightly altered. If you want more spice, you can use ½ teaspoon black pepper powder instead of using ¼ teaspoon.
  • Oil: I have used olive oil in air frying the thick potato slices. Olive oil adds flavor and helps to make crispy potatoes.
  • Parsley: Parsley is added for garnish and is an optional ingredient.
  • Salt: Salt is added for taste. You may adjust salt as per your taste.

Notes to keep in mind while making potato slices in air fryer:

  • I have fried potato with skin on. You may peel it.
  • The thickness of potato slices should be uniform so that they cook uniformly inside the air fryer.
  • The potato slices might overlap while getting air fried and that is totally fine. Just keep shaking the basket every 10 minutes.
  • You may air fry in batches if the quantity is large, but do not overcrowd the air fryer.

FAQs

Should I soak the potato slices before air frying?
Soaking isn’t required for this recipe, but if you want extra-crispy results, soaking cut potatoes in cold water for 15–20 minutes first helps remove surface starch, which can reduce sticking and improve crispiness.

What’s the best potato for this recipe?
Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes work best, thanks to their starch content — they crisp up well on the outside while staying soft and fluffy inside.

Why aren’t my potato slices getting crispy?
Overcrowding the air fryer basket is the most common cause — cook in batches if needed, and make sure to shake the basket every 10 minutes as the recipe calls for, so every side gets even air contact.

Can I make this without oil?
A small amount of oil (as little as 1 tablespoon) helps the spices stick and promotes browning — skipping it entirely will give a drier texture and less effective browning, though it can still work in a pinch with a light water or broth toss instead.

How do I reheat leftover potato slices?
Reheat in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes at the same temperature to re-crisp them — a microwave will make them soft and lose the crispy texture.

What’s the difference between air fryer potato slices and potato wedges?

Slices are thin, crisp and spiced with paprika and chili, about 25 minutes. For thick, fluffy, parmesan-style wedges, see my air fryer potato wedges.
