Since I am a food blogger, I love to click pictures of food either from the places I visit or food that I cook at home. Apart from food pictures I love to click pictures of interesting things I spot around and post it on Instagram. You can say I love to click pictures and I love the pictures I click.

Recently I received a mail from ASUS that they have been following my work and would love to send me an ASUS Zenfone Laser to improve my photography experience. I was thrilled by the mail after knowing that popular brands like ASUS are following my blog. The mail made my day and very soon came home the best gift for New Year – A beautiful and sleek ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser.
ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser |
This is not just a smartphone but it is my companion. I carry it everywhere I go. It is stylish and ergonomically fits my hand as it has smooth curvature and incredibly thin edges with only 3.9mm thickness. This gives a natural grip. The back cover has a metallic effect and the phone looks really beautiful.
Beautiful metallic back cover. The volume buttons are on the rear. |
The screen is 5.5” full HD and gives a maximum viewing experience of 72% screen-to-body ratio. Since the screen is big, the phone might be a problem for carrying around as it might not fit the pockets. I love to carry it in my hand-bag and since it has Corning Gorilla Glass 4, I never have to worry as it will never get scratches with the keys and other stuff in my bag. A screen guard is never needed for this phone. The phone has 85% less chances of breakage and has 2 times drop-damage resistance.
ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop and offers 16 GB of expandable storage in addition to 5GB ASUS web storage for lifetime. It also has Qualcomm 64-bit Quad Core Processor Snapdragon 410.
The box comes with a smartphone, charger, data/charger cable, warranty card and manual. |
The power key is at the top of the phone and the volume key is at the rear. A double tap wakes the phone from the sleep mode. It is all about usability and I don’t think the position of the keys is a problem at any time.
The phone responds very well to touch. It is fast and responsive with a 60ms touch response time. Even when the panel is covered with water, users can swipe smoothly due to its unique software algorithm. The phone has anti-fingerprint coating which gives a good viewing experience. The unique GloveTouch technology lets me use this phone to click step-by-step pictures of recipes even when I wear my gloves while cooking or baking. So this smartphone is a really a big boon to food bloggers.
The best part of the smartphone is the 3000 mAh battery which last for upto 8 hours. The charging was also quick. And did I tell you that it supports Dual SIM both with 4G? Yes, it does so I can now maintain 2 numbers, one for my blog clients and one for my personal use 🙂 The signal quality was good even in some of the remote areas of Karnataka due to the Zentenna with high efficiency transmission. The voice and data quality is much better than the previous Zenfone 5.
For the New Year, we drove down to Goa. The GPS navigation of the Zenfone was our savior even in the remote forests of Karnataka as it has the most precise satellite navigation system. The GPS navigation is much more accurate and stable compared to other smartphones which I have used.

Now coming to the best part – The Camera 🙂
The smile on my face says it all. ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser has the best camera among the available smartphones in the same range. It has superb high-definition (HD) 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. The front camera is 5 MP and the rear camera is 13 MP with laser-assisted auto-focus. This allows to lock the focus on an object in as low as 0.3 seconds.
Strawberry Milkshake – Clicked in low light mode late in the evening. |
The phone was great while clicking step-by-step pictures of recipes. Just double tap the volume keys to start the camera and press once more to click beautiful images. With a DSLR it is very difficult to cook and click simultaneously. But with the Zenfone it was easy, as I could hold it with one hand and click. It has image stabilizer and produces shake-free images. PixelMaster 2.0 ensures that the photos and videos are crisp and shake-free.
New Year’s Eve – Fireworks – Clicked at night, auto mode. |
The images were of high quality and looked professional. They are similar to that clicked by my DSLR which has basic features. The wide aperture f/2.0 lens gathers more light, thus allowing finer details to be captured. The best thing was that it clicks high quality images in low light too using low light mode on the phone. The focus is 2 times faster than traditional focusing enabling better quality pictures in low light conditions. Now I need not worry about carrying my bulky DSLR to restaurant reviews or other events, I can easily click good quality pictures with my ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser. Also it becomes really difficult to carry many gadgets for events and reviews like a DSLR for clicking pictures and a smartphone for capturing images. Just carrying my Zenfone will do all the 2 tasks together.
Flowers & Leaves – Clicked in day light, auto mode. |
For people who love clicking selfies, this phone is a boon as it has a Selfie mode with a selfie panorama too. The beautification mode provides real time image enhancement too. I tried the beautification mode today to click images for my friends and they were extremely happy with the outcome.
Corn Salsa – Clicked in day light, auto mode. |
In particular I loved the depth of field mode. I just loved how the phone camera focused on one part of the image and blurred the other parts. Using a DSLR this comes only with experience. But you can get this type of images with a Zenfone without any prior photography experience.
Purple Flowers – Clicked in day light, Depth of field mode is used to blur the 2nd flower. |
There are 16 different modes for day and night. The panorama mode also gave a great image. This is especially good when you have to click image of a big family or of a group of friends together. It also captures sceneries very well. The zero shutter lag captures even eye-blinking images.
Scenery At Chitradurga – Clicked in day light, Panorama mode. |
It was always a problem for me to click images with my DSLR at night. I always cook after returning from office, but due to the low light conditions my DSLR which has basic features could never capture good images. But thanks to ASUS Zenfone, I am now able to click some great images in low light mode at night too. I think my DSLR is getting replaced soon with the new Zenfone. You can try all the modes on the Zenfone and be surprised by some modes like super resolution and HDR modes.
Capture the image inside a frame using the Effect Mode. |
And by the way, there is a manual mode too which gives you a DSLR type of experience where you can even control the white balance, shutter speed, ISO and aperture.
Using PhotoCollage app make a collage – Different types of omelettes – Masala omelette, plain omelette and egg-white omelette. |
This is not all, there are number of apps pre-installed on the phone which you can uninstall if you do not use them. There is a kids mode where you can password protect some apps and control the time when the kids use it. You can hide some apps, group them according to type and disable them on auto start. The auto-start manager denies auto-start of apps to preserve battery life.
Check the below video to see how beautifully the natural scenery got captured with the Zenfone 2 Laser. The video is crisp and shake free.

I have listed only few features here, but apart from this there are lots of interesting and innovative features in the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser.
My Verdict:
To sum up everything, ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser is a great smartphone. Under Rs.10, 000/- it is worth the price.
The top 3 things which I loved are Corning Gorilla glass and ergonomic grip, Camera and Battery life. These are the top 3 things which any person first analyses while purchasing a smartphone and Zenfone 2 laser has got the best of them.
