Momo Chutney | Momo Dipping Sauce

Momo chutney or momo sauce is a spicy dipping sauce served with street side momos. Let us see step by step pictures to make this best momos chutney recipe which is served with steamed dumplings. The Tibetan momo chutney is sweet, tangy and spicy and is very easy to make.

Momo is a steamed filled dumpling and belongs to East and South Asian region. These dumplings with chicken filling are perfect to serve as an appetizer. These homemade dumplings can also be served as snacks or even for mains.Β  This Nepali momo chutney recipe gets ready in just 10 to 15 minutes. Without this spicy momo chilli sauce the taste of momos is incomplete. Every bite of momo dipped in this sauce enhances the flavours and makes you want more.

You can serve this spicy dip with chicken momos and vegetable momos too.

Let us see the ingredients that go in making momo chutney street style:

  • Tomato: Use fresh ripe tomatoes to make this momo dip recipe.
  • Chilies: Use dry red chillies to make the momo dip spicy. You can deseed the dry red chilies.
  • Garlic: Use fresh garlic to make the dumpling dip aromatic.
  • Ginger: Bit of ginger is used in this recipe to add spiciness and flavour.
  • Black pepper corns: Few black pepper corns are added to this recipe for making the momo sauce spicy. You can use 1 teaspoon black pepper powder if you don’t have black pepper corns.
  • Soy sauce: Little bit of soy sauce is added to this recipe.
  • Sugar: The condiment momo sauce is bit sweet, so add little amount of sugar while making the sauce.

How to make chilli sauce for momos?

  • Heat water and when it starts boiling, add tomatoes, dry red chillies and boil them till tomatoes are cooked.
  • Drain the water and let the tomatoes and red chillies cool.
  • Slice the black part from the tomatoes and peel them.
  • Add peeled, boiled tomatoes, dry red chillies, chopped garlic, black pepper pods and sugar to a mixer and blend.
  • Add soy sauce, salt to taste and mix well.

Ingredients

  • 3 tomatoes ripe
  • 4 dry red chillies
  • 5 garlic pods chopped
  • 5 black pepper pods
  • 2 cups water
  • 1- inch ginger peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ΒΌ teaspoon salt

Instructions
