5 Delicious and Healthy Dishes You Can Easily Prepare With Prunes

Many moms have this question: what to pack in the kidsโ€™ snack boxes? As moms, we want our kids to eat healthy and delicious food. In my daughterโ€™s school, junk food of any type is not allowed. They cannot carry even chips and biscuits to school. Hence it is a real challenge for me to pack delicious and healthy dishes in the snack box every day.

During my visit to Europe three years back, I was introduced to prunes. Prunes are plums which are sundried. They were on the breakfast buffet and it was love at first bite. I fell in love with prunes. Soon after returning to India, I kept talking about prunes and explaining to everyone that they are one of the yummiest things I had in Europe. I kept searching for prunes everywhere. One fine day, I found a packet of Del Monte Prunes in my favorite grocery store. I was happy and quickly grabbed four packets of them. I always carried them to office in my tiffin and munched them during the mid-meal hunger pangs. And it is from this experience that I know they are a healthy snack for kids and adults alike.

Prunes have numerous health benefits. They are rich in fibre, potassium, iron, vitamins and minerals. They are a great source of vitamin A and hence promote healthy vision. They are loaded with antioxidants and help protect the cell membranes. Since they are high in potassium, consumption of prunes also helps to keep the heart healthy by maintaining blood pressure. In fact, they are even known to improve bone health and are recommended for people suffering from arthritis. What a treasury of benefits, right?
