Gourmet Indulgence By Four Seasons Wine @ The Square, Novotel, Bangalore

On 20th August 2013 Four Seasons Wine flagged off an unique food and wine pairing event ‘Gourmet Indulgence’. Four Seasons Wines unique gourmet journey spans across 6 cities for nearly a month, at 90 signature restaurants. Four Seasons Wine is the Best Indian Wine.

I got an invitefrom Poshvine to visit The Square, Novotel. Initially I was a bit reluctant to visit Novotel because I have already been to Novotel before. I actually wanted to visit a different place. The place that I chose had not confirmed about the event. Finally I accepted the invite and I feel that it was the best thing that I did. My hubby sweetly accepted to accompany me to the venue. Thanks Dear for taking me there. Had the best time.
When we went there, we told them that we had specially been invited to experience the ‘Gourmet Indulgence’ special menu which is a 3 course meal paired with Four Seasons Wine. We were wholeheartedly welcomed and greeted by the staff specially Mrs. Abanti who is the Manager Marketing Services, at The Square and we were offered a table which was reserved just for us. Within a few minutes of settling down we were served with 3 different varieties of bread along with 2 glasses of wines – A glass of Four Seasons Sauvignon Blanc and a glass of Four Seasons Barrique Reserve Shiraz 2008. After some time Mr. Ravi Rai, Director of Food & Beverage met us and spoke a bit about the event.

Bread Platter

Everything was fine, the ambiance, the food and offcourse the wine. We got a lot of attention from the staff. They literally pampered us. We did not have to bother about ordering the food. The food kept coming on the table as we were done with a particular course. This is the advantage of choosing a fixed menu. The service also was great. After every course we were asked for feedback and we rated them excellent which is what they deserved.
Crab and Fish Cake Pineapple Salsa and tomato aioli sauce

For starters we both ordered Crab and Fish Cake Pineapple Salsa and tomato aioli sauce. This was the actual star dish. It was just awesome and was neatly paired with white wine i.e. Four Seasons Sauvignon Blanc. Turned out to be my favorite dish there.

Salmon on a bed of Ratataouille – Grilled Salmon served with vegetable,
ย potato tomato ragout and Balsamic glaze

Vegetable Moussaka

For the main course my hubby ordered Salmon on a bed of Ratataouille – Grilled Salmon served with vegetable, potato tomato ragout and Balsamic glaze. This was a bit too heavy as the Salmon was lavishly fried using butter and olive oil.

I ordered Vegetable Moussaka which is juicy layers of eggplant, potato, tomato sauce and finished with cheese. I liked this one too. I love food cooked in cheese, so it was just of my types. I wished it to be a bit more spicier. The main course was paired with Four Seasons Barrique Reserve Shiraz which is a Red Wine.
Khubani Ka Meetha

For the dessert we choose Khubani Ka Meetha which is a Hyderabadi delicacy of stewed apricots. This had a sweet and spicy taste. Kinda liked it.

Chef Kailash
The best thing that I liked there was soon I was introduced to The Executive Chef, Chef Kailash. Chef Kailash gave us a brief introduction about the special menu which they have crafted specially for the “Gourmet Indulgence’ event at The Square. He told us about English vegetables which are used in cooking. This is because wine gets best paired with “English” type of food. He also told us that the Salmon fish used there was imported from Europe. Without any fuss he explained how to fry the Salmon and to use olive oil or butter while frying it to get the pink colour for this particular fish. The Chef also mentioned that the meat used for the crab and fish cake was actually the real meat of a very good quality of crab and Basa fish and it was not processed in any way.

Overall the experience was really great. Since I am not a wine drinker, I was offered fresh lime soda at the table. I felt really pampered. The food quality and taste was good. The ambiance was just like any other 5 star restaurants. At the end of the lunch I felt extremely full as the lunch was quite heavy. But enjoyed each and every moment at The Square.

The price of the 3 course meal is Rs.999/- + taxes per person.
