We all know that the much awaited festivals – Christmas and New Year are round the corner. People have started preparing for these festivals by shopping for clothes and gifting items. Many people have started cleaning their houses to prepare for Christmas. Any time is perfect time to clean the house, but festivals like Christmas gives us an excuse to clean and pushes those who wait for special occasions to clean their houses. Many people like me take an off from work just to keep the house clean as this is the time when lots of friends and relatives visit us. It is always good to impress our guests.

Many people will start cooking different types of dishes specially cakes, muffins, cookies, tarts, etc. to serve their guests this Christmas or simply to gift their friends and relatives. So when you cook something for Christmas, there are certain things that you need to keep in mind.

1) Keep the kitchen clean – The most important place in the house is the kitchen. Kitchen is the place from where we cook delicious stuff to fill our stomachs. So every night before retiring off to bed, clean the gas stove, clean the kitchen counter and the sink. Clean the spoiled plates, utensils and dispose off any waste like left over food into the dustbin. Clean the area below the gas stove. Clean the ovens and microwaves too. Avoid any types of spills. If incase there are spills, then clean it immediately. The eating area like the dining table should be extremely clean.

2) Wash all the vegetables and fruits properly before storing them in the fridge – Mostly when we buy fruits and vegetables, we have a tendency to store them as it is in the fridge and later to wash it before using them while cooking. But it is very important to clean the fruits and vegetables first and then to store then in the fridge. Simply take a tub with water, put all the vegetables and fruits in it and wash them thoroughly. Pat them dry and then store it in the fridge.

3) Keep the dustbins covered – Segregate the wet and dry waste and keep it out of the house every night. Yes it is important to keep the waste out of the house every night and not on the weekend or alternate days.

4) Do not leave any food uncovered – Since we will be baking a lot of things, there is a tendency that lot of food items will be left on the table to cool down. At times we just leave the food open to cool down. But it is very important to cover the food when it is unattended.

5) Avoid food poisoning โ€“ Yes! Food poisoning at home is very much possible. When we say food poisoning we always relate it to eating out. But here I say food poisoning at home. So did you ever think what causes food poisoning at home? Yup, it is caused by those little roaches which get into your house from the drainage pipes or through the sink. They hide in the various corners of the house like below the gas cylinder or under the shelves. At night when we all sleep, these little roaches get active and start to feed on the food that we cooked or on the fruits that we have kept on our dining tables. Even if there is no food left uncovered, they just fly around the house, sit on our expensive crockery like glasses or plates and leave the bacteria on it. Next morning when we get up, we would think that everything is clean. We would not even think about those cockroaches. We would use the same crockery to serve food or just bite into that washed apple that we kept in the fruit basket on the table. And this is what leads to food poisoning at home. The cockroaches contaminate the food. Even one cockroach is enough to contaminate the food. So please do not ignore them. For the safety of our guests and everyone at home, we need to #SayNoToFoodPoisoning. And pests like cockroaches are taken care of by good old LAL HIT. Infact, LAL HIT is the only solution that kills even hidden cockroaches with its unique โ€˜Deep Reach Nozzleโ€™

Yup these cockroaches are a real problem. Last time in Diwali, when I had cooked some delicious โ€˜Gajar Halwaโ€™, these roaches had to spoil the party – 3 of the 5 friends who had had the Halwa got acute food poisoning. I have tried a lot of things to control these roaches but in vain. Thanks for suggesting Lal Hit, I hope this works.
