Assam1860 Tea – A Product Review

Some days back the folks at Assam1860 tea asked my address to send a sample of Assam1860 tea. How could I say no? Given the fact that I am a tea lover. I can have tea at any time of the day. Tea is favorite in every Indian household. Every office goer, student, housewife, young and old love tea and it every one’s favorite beverage.
Assam1860 is a newly launched black tea brand from James Warren Tea Estates. These tea estates have been looked after by generations of tea artisans, producing the best black tea in the world. All the leaves are carefully hand-picked, lightly cut and allowed to ferment before being dried. It is not handled by any middlemen or blender and hence it remains fresh and juicy. The leaves are plucked, processed and packed in the estate itself, ensuring quality and freshness that is unparalleled.
The sample box which I received was a combination box. It had 10 tea bags(2.5 gms each) and a small packet of loose tea. The cover was black and fluorescent green in color. The packet of loose tea comes in a re-sealable pouch with 80 gms of ctc black tea. I really liked the re-sealable pouch, just use as much as you want seal and keep it for future use. This pouch of 80 gms makes 40 cups of black tea.
The tea bags too are neatly packed. The thread between the tea bag and label is stitched with thread and not stapled like some other tea brands, ensuring safety. The bags are made of synthetic fabric and not of paper. This allows you to let the tea to get brewed nicely. You can simply make black tea , add sugar and have it or mix milk and have. I prefer tea in milk.
The best part was the colour of the tea. The colour itself shows how rich the tea is. This tea is unique and is full of flavour and is rich in antioxidants.
Steeping Instructions are 2 tablespoons per person, 2.5 Min’s at 90-100 C or 194-212 F. You can make this like any other tea with milk, water and sugar. Though it is mentioned as 2 tablespoons per person in steeping instructions, I added only 1 tsp per person and the tea was great. At the end I could feel a slightly bitter taste, but I think that comes because the tea is fresh.
The brand Assam1860, aims to become India’s pride and will be available online and in major supermarket chains and in restaurant and cafes soon. This has become my family’s favorite tea now.
