Top Destinations In Dandeli To Steal Your Heart Away

Dandeli is a town in the state of Karnataka. Dandeli has got its name from a local deity known as Dandelappa. While some say it takes its name from King Dandakanayaka who passed through the forests. While visiting the town of Dandeli you will get to explore wildlife and natural beauty. It is a famous spot for adventure activities including trekking, cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing and river rafting. Syntheri Rock, Kali River, Dandakaranya Eco Park, Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Kavala Caves are some of the best destinations to visit in Dandeli.

Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over the area of 866.41 kmยฒ. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is a paradise for the birders as the sanctuary has around 200 species of birds. Elephants, mongoose, rare black panthers, wild dogs, monkeys, deer, wild pigs, tigers, and sloth bears are some of the animals that you will spot while visiting this sanctuary. The sanctuary is open all days of the week from 6:00 AM โ€“ 10:00 PM.  It is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka state. If you are taking your camera with you then you will have to pay a charge for it.

Dandeli

Syntheri Rock

Syntheri Rock is located in the forests of the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located at the distance of 25 km from Dandeli. It is a scenic place, so do not forget to take your camera. You can reach this place either by jeep or walk. The jeep leaves you at the parking after which you have to climb down to reach the destination. It was found that Syntheri Rock formed due to the volcanic eruptions some million years ago. River Kaneri passes by the side of the rock. Numerous pigeons and honeybees have made this rock their home.

 

Kavala Caves

Kavala Caves is a major destination for the tourists. It is located inside the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and at the distance of 24 km from Munnar. These are natural caves formed by volcanic activity year back. It is said that these caves belong to the prehistoric time. Tourists have to climb down around 375 steps to reach the entrance of the caves. At the entrance of the cave, there is a temple. One has to crawl down through the narrow passage to see the Shivlinga that was formed naturally. If you are visiting there, do carry a torch. The size of Shivlinga is around four feet high. Thousands of devotees visit the cave during Shivratri to offer their prayers.

Dandakaranya Eco Park

Dandakaranya Eco Park is a hidden gem in Dandeli. This park is surrounded by the dense forests, waterfalls and lakes. If you are visiting with the kids then you should not miss this destination. This park has been developed to connect children to the park. For this purpose, various cartoon characters including Chota Bheem, Mowgli, Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh and more are carved in the park to attract the children and make them connect with nature.

Kali River

Kali River is surrounded by the greenery and located at the distance of 86 km from the Dandeli. This river is a famous spot for boat rides. Flying fox, rafting and kayaking are some of the activities that can be enjoyed here. People visit this place for overnight camping. You can also enjoy barbecue parties and camp fire games here; which will be a lifetime experience for you. This is a must visit place for the nature lovers.
