Goan Kokum Kadi Without Coconut Milk | Futi Kadi

Futi kadi is Goan drink made with kokum petals and water. This drink is also known as kokum kadi without coconut milk. Some people also call it phuti kadi or khuti kadi. Kokum is known as “sola” in Konkani and this drink can be called as sol kadi without coconut milk. This kokum kadi is very good for digestion and is usually had at the end of a meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 10 kokum petals
  • 2 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1/4 inch or 2 pinches asafoetida
  • 1 green chili slit and chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Take the kokum petals in a plate and sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon salt on it.
  • Soak these kokum petals in warm water for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, add the other ingredients like asafoetida, green chillies, coriander leaves and sugar and stir well.
    Adjust salt to taste.

Notes

  • Green chilies are added to the kadi to enhance the flavour, but most people discard it while drinking.
  • Some people add garlic to this drink.
