Home-cooked food is always what I prefer. The golden fried prawns is a delicacy at home and when everyone at home loves them, my heart jumps with joy. Yea, it is deep-fried, but once in a while deep-fried food is OK right? The golden fried prawns were over within Minutes and I had a difficult time convincing my kiddo to wait till the photo shoot is over. So next time you get prawns at home do try this recipe and let me know how it turns out.
These crispy and juicy golden fried prawns are a sure winner for any occasion where non-veg food is served.
Ingredients:                                                            Prep. Time: 30 Min’s
10 prawns
2 cups oil for deep frying

For the batter:
4 tbsp all purpose flour /maida
2 tbsp rice flour
1 tbsp tandoori masala
1 tsp black pepper powder
1/4 tsp salt
A pinch of cooking soda(optional)
10 tbsp water

For marination:
1 tsp chilly powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp salt

Wash the prawns. Deshell and devein them. Remove the black thread which is present in their backbone. Wash again.
Marinate the prawns and keep aside for 30 Min’s.

In a mixing bowl, mix the 2 flours. Add the powders and salt and mix.
Add water and make a thick paste.
Now add the cooking soda and mix well. This makes the batter ready.
You can add 1 tsp chilly powder instead of tandoori masala.

Heat oil in a kadai/pan. Test if the oil is heated by dropping a drop of batter into the oil. If the drop of batter gets fried immediately, it means that the oil is ready for deep-frying.

Coat the marinated prawns with the batter and gently drop them into the heated oil in batches of 2-3 prawns.

Ensure that the gas is on high flame when the batter coated prawns are dropped into the hot oil.
After 5 Min’s, turn the gas to low flame.

Gently turn the prawns to the other side when they turn golden and let them get cooked.
Deep fry them for 10 Min’s till they turn brownish.

Take them out of the kadai/pan and drain them on a tissue paper.

Serve them as starters or as an accompaniment with food.
Tastes the best when served hot.

Serve with green chutney or tomato sauce. I love to eat them just as they are.
